What if Omar Khadr isn’t guilty?
The controversy surrounding Omar Khadr’s reported $10.5-million settlement for Ottawa's complicity in his oppressive detention at Guantanamo Bay obscures a key issue never truly explored in Canada.
What if Khadr was innocent of the murder of Sgt. Christopher Speer this whole time, and we didn't lift a finger while he sat in a hell-hole for a decade?
For almost 15 years, Canadian treatment of the Khadr case has been dominated by the presumption of guilt. Yet the evidence tells a different story... Examined closely, it appears more consistent with his innocence than guilt.

Omar’s Motive by James Bradley
Lying near dead people, wondering if she was about to die, Ms. Carter understood Omar’s real motive. She said, “The motive was very clear to us who are laying in our own blood and other people’s blood, who are injured, who were shot. Everybody who was in that bathroom who survived could hear him talking to 911, saying the reason why he’s doing this is because he wanted America to stop bombing his country." Americans will always remember 9-11, but curiously, we don’t expect other people to react in a similar, visceral, patriotic way when their homelands are bombed.

Pat Robertson urges assassination
You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it. It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war. And I don't think any oil shipments will stop. But this man is a terrific danger and the United ... This is in our sphere of influence, so we can't let this happen. We have the Monroe Doctrine, we have other doctrines that we have announced. And without question, this is a dangerous enemy to our south, controlling a huge pool of oil, that could hurt us very badly. We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability. We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with.

World Tribunal on Iraq
"Snipers hunt people in the streets.
People attempting to go to health centers are shot at,"
testified Eman Kmammas, an Iraqi translator.
Dahr Jamail, an unembedded journalist who had been reporting from Iraq during the past year, narrated the story told to him by Ali Shalal Abbas from Baghdad. While detained at Abu Ghraib and tortured, Abbas was approached by two men, "one a foreigner and one a translator," who asked him who he was. "I said I'm a human being. They told me, "We are going to cut your head off and send you to hell, we will take you to Guantánamo." Abbas questioned why only Saddam Hussein, who also had people tortured, was put on trial while the Americans were not.
This gripping but unsettling revelation came on the second day of proceedings at the World Tribunal on Iraq, held in Istanbul, Turkey, which is collecting evidence of war crimes in Iraq.

Families For Peace Delegation visit Iraq
During our week-long exchange with Iraqis, we heard allegations of US atrocities
that made Abu Graib seem like childish pranks: a woman raped in full view of other
prisoners, who is now seeking permission from religious leaders to kill herself;
a seven-year-old girl, left momentarily in the car while her father stopped at
the market, screaming and clawing at the window while a US tank crushed the
vehicle; a mother watching in horror as the troops raided her home in the
middle of the night, shot her son in the chest and then stomped on him as
he bled to death.
In Fallujah alone, thousands of civilians were killed in one brutal week.
We wept together as we saw gruesome pictures of bodies burned beyond recognition,
possibly from the use of napalm, and limbs eaten by dogs because anyone trying
to retrieve the dead would be shot. A young Iraqi woman who risked her life
taking our humanitarian aid to those too old and infirm to flee was still
traumatized by the devastation she witnessed.

CIA Whites Out Controversial Estimate on Iraq Weapons;
Washington D.C., 9 July 2004 - The CIA has decided to keep almost entirely secret the
controversial October 2002 CIA intelligence estimate about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction
that is the subject of today's Senate Intelligence Committee report, according to the CIA's
June 1, 2004 response to a Freedom of Information Act request from the National Security Archive.
The CIA's response included a copy of the estimate, NIE 2002-16HC, October 2002, Iraq's
Continuing Programs for Weapons of Mass Destruction, consisting almost entirely of
whited-out pages. Only 14 of the 93 pages provided actually contained text, and all of
the text except for the two title pages and the two pages listing National Intelligence
Council members had previously been released in July 2003. At that time, CIA responded
to the first round of controversy over the Niger yellowcake story by declassifying the
"Key Findings" section of the estimate and a few additional paragraphs...

According to a stunning report posted by a retired Navy Lt Commander and 28-year veteran of the Defense Department (DoD), the Bush administration's assurance about finding weapons of mass destruction in Iraq was based on a Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) plan to "plant" WMDs inside the country. Nelda Rogers, the Pentagon whistleblower, claims the plan failed when the secret mission was mistakenly taken out by "friendly fire",

U.S. unloading WMD in Iraq at night !
Special to the Mehr News Agency, that U.S. forces, with the help of British forces stationed in southern Iraq, had made extensive efforts to conceal their actions. He added that the cargo was unloaded during the night as attention was still focused on the aftermath of the deadly bombings in Karbala and the signing of Iraq's interim constitution. The source said that in order to avoid suspicion, ordinary cargo ships were used to download the cargo, which consisted of weapons produced in the 1980s and 1990s... The source went on to say that the rest of the weapons were probably transferred in vans to an unknown location somewhere in the vicinity of Basra overnight. 'Most of these weapons are of Eastern European origin and some parts are from the former Soviet Union and the Eastern Bloc. The U.S. obtained them through confiscations during sales of banned arms over the past two decades,' he said."

Would a Bush fund against American interest?
WASHINGTON - After 60 years of inattention and even denial by the U.S. media,
newly-uncovered government documents in The National Archives and Library of Congress
reveal that Prescott Bush, the grandfather of President George W. Bush, served as a
business partner of and U.S. banking operative for the financial architect of the
Nazi war machine from 1926 until mid 1942, when Congress took aggressive action
against Bush and his "enemy national" partners.
The question to be asked is George Bush doing the same thing?
Did his administration fund and support the Bin Laden family and the attack.
Why is Cheney's energy meeting notes a state secret?
What are they hiding... ? Something unpleasant to patriotic Americans.
Bush is hiding the fact that Americans are going to war and dying for corporate interest,
not national interest.

Cheney planned War...
July 17, 2003, Judicial Watch announced that Cheney's Energy Task Force had developed a map of Iraq dated March 2001, as well as maps of the neighboring United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) and Saudi Arabia, which show that Cheney knew precisely how much the conquest of Iraq would be worth. The map, which shows oilfields, pipelines, tanker terminals, and refineries, includes eight "blocks" for exploration near the border with Saudi Arabia. Iraq has been proven to have the second-highest amount of oil reserves of any nation in the world, next to Saudi Arabia. And, this is without exploration of the eight blocks near the Saudi border-a vast area that is at least one-third of the country-which could make Iraq number one in terms of proven reserves...
as the keys to the maps and subsequent developments contracts in Iraq with Bechtel and Halliburton show-that there was influence-peddling involved. In fact, the Vice President knows his deferred payments depend on performance. So, not only did he plan the invasion of Iraq when he was Defense Secretary, but through his Energy Task Force, he appears to have tried to calculate, to the penny, what war would bring for himself and his corporate cronies.

Blair told the House of Commons that the document demonstrated

Powell even cited it at the UN. Yet a dossier presented as

exercise largely lifted from a Californian post-graduate thesis
focused on evidence from the invasion of Kuwait 13 years ago.
Even worse, while typographical errors were maintained, a sprinkling
of unfounded exaggerations were inserted to strengthen the claims made in the thesis.

President Bush has appointed of a former aide to the American oil company Unocal, Afghan-born Zalmay Khalilzad, as special envoy to Afghanistan.
